Are you a naturally cluttery, flakey, and forgetful person like me? In multiple aspects of your life? Well guess what... You don't have to be and you definitely aren't alone! You can change it little by little and eventually become an orderly and clean person! I am very passionate about these steps! It worked for me and it can work for you! Here are five things that helped change me and my life!
If anyone knows me these days they think of me as a organized and OCD-like person. My husband likes to point out I always seem to have a stick up my butt! haha. To some being OCD is negative but I am proud of where I have come.
I used to be very forgetful, and flakey. I would procrastinate EVERY task. I am surprised I even passed High School and College. Every space of mine was cluttery and chaotic. I was sick of hearing I was the forgetful friend, and the dirty one. That I decided to change. I didn't want that to be me. Of course I still have little quirks here and there. But I have improved and I feel like I can handle my life. This process has taken YEARS for me in implement, but it starts little by little.
1. WHITE BOARD TO DO LIST
Go to the store and by a $5.00 little white board. Put it in a spot that you can see it many times a day. And on that board right before you go to bed you make a small REACHABLE and REALISTIC list that you will ACTUALLY do the next day. Cross off as you complete (best part). And when the next day comes you rewrite a new list. Even if it means re-adding some things you didn't do from the past day. I promise if you do this your life will be so much orderly and managable.
2. KEEP A PLANNER
Some people cringe at this idea. It seems like a chore. It is. Just try it. When you hear about something, when you have a deadline, or when people make plans with you WRITE IT DOWN THEN AND THERE! Be that annoying friend that says... "hold up, let me check my planner.'' It will save you loads and loads of headache later, keep your relationships, and help you be more on top of tasks.
3. 1 MINUTE RULE
I've heard this said a handful of times. If you can complete the task in one minute or less, then do it. For example; as I am going to bed rather than throw my clothes on the floor, put them where they go. If you come home from work and throw all your things on the table, put them away first. Things build up. QUICKLY. When you are done with your dishes put them in the dishwasher. It will save you from a big mess later on, that you have to dedicate more time to. Your house and life will be more organized.
4. WEEKLY CLEANING CHART
Here is where my OCD self is coming in. It is similar to the ONE MINUTE RULE. I have done it for 2 months now. It is EVERYTHING!! I attached it below. Every day you do the minimal things. And then each day you do one bulk task. Monday is my bathroom. Tuesday is Vacumming, Moping, and Dusting. Etc... It may seem like a lot. But because you do it once a week it's not really dirty. You whip through it and have the rest of the day to do other things. That way all your cleaning doesn't get shoved into one dreadful day. The starred lines with certain days are room for a different task of your choice. That may not need to be done weekly. For me it's cleaning out my fish bowls. (yes I have three different fish bowls... Fish lady) Or cleaning the backyard after my dog, or painting a table... you get the idea. Of course when you are a full-time/school goer/dating someone special ;) then things can get a little tricky as you are stretched for time. But do it. It's amazing. AMAZING.
5. MAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF
For some of you this won't be a hard thing. But if you are go go go and so busy and trying do EVERYTHING... then slow down and breathe. After a task reward yourself and read a favorite book. Go hang with friends, go get crappy fast food! You deserve it! Do something you enjoy! I reccommend this ESPECIALLY if you are mom/wife. You are in endless servicetude till you die. If you take time for yourself you will find that you have your sanity! ;)
IF YOU GIVE THESE A TRY LET ME KNOW! MESSAGE OR COMMENT WHAT YOU THINK! :) GOOD LUCK ON FINDING YOUR INNER BALANCE!!! :)

2. KEEP A PLANNER
Whether that be on your phone or an actual planner. Even if you hate it. Do it. And when you hear about things or make plans with people
